I thought the kidney infections, the food regulations, the puking, the unending nausea, the back pain… I thought that was the worst of it. That once we had the wriggly bundle of joy that there would be challenges, of course, but nothing so uncomprehendingly, mind-numbingly bad as parts of my pregnancy.

So Tuesday morning, bright and early, it was time for the Snarklet’s 2 month peds appointment. All weekend long people had been asking me how much he weighed, and I was saying, based on the charts and what size clothes he was into, probably about 11, 11 and a quarter pounds.

The invasion has come and gone. Leather Pants Grrrl arrived 2 weeks ago for an extended visit, then last Thursday Matilda, Dog-Faced Boy, King of the Hill People, and my mother showed up. The next day, the MIL, FIL, R and E arrived. And on Saturday, we banished Satan.

There’s a day, in every family, where everything goes wrong. My family has one, referred to as Black Tuesday- when the plumber and exterminator informed my mother that they found the leak which was attracting termites, and it was in the foundation under the kitchen and they’d need to jackhammer it up; the vet called to say the dog did, in fact, have valley fever and she needed to be brought in to commence the expensive, arsenic based treatment immediately and it only had a 15% success rate; and then the pediatrician called to say he was back from vacation, had looked at my numbers, and I needed to be hospitalized that day, preferably within the next hour.

Last Monday wasn’t quite that bad, but it came damn close.
